New Looks for the Bathroom
Looking to remodel your bathroom? There are many different things to consider when deciding a new design, so we listed a few guidelines and trends to help you make the right choice:
The Bathroom is a place that gets neglected by most homeowners until an emergency happens. As long as everything’s working and no one’s getting hurt, the bathroom is doing its job. But face it, you’ll be spending time there whether you like it or not. Just like any room of the house, decor and design can play a crucial role in its value for you or for someone down the line. So here are some brainstorming ideas for how to make your bathroom a place worth staying in. For as long as you need.
The standard bathroom appearance can be described in one word: White. And that’s fine. It’s sterile and clean. But it’s not very comfortable. You may as well stick to public bathrooms in that case.
Try redecorating with less conventional themes. Wood can warp, but treated wood won’t, and can be just as easy to clean as flat panels. Wallpaper can peel, so replace it with waterproof vinyl coverings, or, layer the entire space with stonework panels to give it a very natural look.
Try some Color
If there’s color on a bathroom wall, it can mean some pretty bad things. That is, if the color is supposed to be white. That makes unfortunate accidents easy to see and spot clean. But it’s not attractive, and makes even tiny problems seem far larger than they really are.
Consider a change of scenery with some easy palette swaps. Layer on some waterproof paint, deep colors to keep it sanitary looking. Plus, if the walls are a little darker, you won’t risk getting blinded during midnight trips when the lights go on. And why not look into a toilet that’s a color other than white? That’s the one fixture you’ll always have to look at, so it may as well look nice.
Fans and Fixtures
Most modern bathrooms have ventilation fans installed in them, to keep the steam from a hot shower or bath from accumulating on the ceiling or walls. And obviously, for smells. But those vent fixtures always end up clashing pretty hard with any well designed layout from the ground-up.
You want to make sure the fan keeps working, but that it doesn’t look so drab while it does its job. Get a new cover for it that adds more appeal to the environment, even if it’s just for occasional glances during long sitting sessions.
Anything from a shower curtain to a shower mat can help change the mood of the room. It can bring warmth to cold tiles and life to sterile white walls or surfaces. You don’t want the only colors in your Bathroom to be inside the toilet bowl. You can keep things clean without having a clashing, boring room in an otherwise lively home.
